Design Police Cruiser Ford

Not long after rival Chevrolet announced that it will be producing an all-new car for police departments to use in the near future comes news that Ford will answer with a Police Interceptor of its own.

We think that the new car will likely be rear-wheel drive, since police favor that setup for its durability and handling traits. We wouldn't be surprised if Ford packs the car with plenty of technology to help law enforcement personnel do their job, along with other police-friendly features such as a bench seat in the front and a sturdy, heavy-duty suspension.

Details are sketchy, but what we do know is that the car will go on sale to police departments in 2011, and it will replace the Crown Victoria as Ford's offering to police departments across the country. Ford claims to sell about 45,000 of the 60,000 police vehicles that purchased each year in the U.S., meaning Ford would stake a claim to 75 percent of the market. Ford says the new car will replace the Crown Vic immediately after production is ceased on that vehicle.

Speeders, beware, because now both Chevy and Ford have new cop cars in the works. Can Dodge be far behind, especially with a redesigned Charger on the way? We'll see.
