The muscular Nissan has a legacy going back decades, but for the most part, this fast and furious coupe boldly goes its own way. Quirky, jerky, and perky, it has so much personality that J.D. Power wouldn’t know how to score it.

Still working to repair factories and restore supply chains in the wake of the deadly earthquake and tsunami on March 11, Japanese automakers have said it may take longer than expected for factories to return to full capacity. Production at Nissan and Toyota plants in Japan may not resume for several weeks, according to executives quoted by Reuters.

The Nissan GT-R Egoist has been developed from the 2011 version of the Nissan GT-R, which itself boasts a number of significant improvements to the engine, chassis and aerodynamics. Revisions to the twin turbocharged 3.8-litre V6 give more power and torque – up from 485 to 530PS and 588 to 612Nm respectively – along with lower emissions and improved fuel consumption. Enhanced aerodynamics have increased downforce by 10 per cent while chassis and damper changes have sharpened the handling and smoothed the ride.
