Subaru Legacy Design
The 2011 Subaru Legacy earns an excellent 9 out of 10 rating here at FamilyCarGuide, because of its roomy interior, good ride, and crisp handling, as well as standard all-wheel drive and impressive fuel economy. And with that price, starting at about $20k for the base model, it's a very strong value.
Unique horizontally opposed ('flat') four- and six-cylinder engines power the entire Legacy line. The base four isn't quick, but it's good enough if you don't carry a full load all the time. With the base engine and the Lineartronic continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), the Legacy has the highest gas mileage of any all-wheel-drive sedan, and it's the most affordable mid-size sedan with all-wheel drive. If you don't mind sacrificing some fuel economy, you can go faster, smoother with the luxurious 3.6R model (flat six engine) or the 2.5GT, which gets a version of the WRX engine plus a manual gearbox.
Subaru Legacy Interior
Subaru has seen some of the most rapid growth among automakers and brands over the past several years. And, just looking at its cars, like the Legacy, the features and price on the window sticker, and its strong ratings for safety and dependability, it's easy to see why.
The Legacy is back for 2011 mostly unchanged, after being completely redesigned (and larger) for 2010. Now, the Legacy is a much better family car, with space for four adults, or five in all if that middle passenger in back isn't too wide-shouldered. The trunk, while only average at about 15 cubic feet, feels large as it's well shaped, and an easy pull from levers up near the trunk rim flips the seatbacks forward to a flat surface.
