The Mercedes S500 Hybrid has been revealed, and it's the first ever plug-in electric model from the German manufacturer. It will make its official debut at the Frankfurt motor show next month.
The combination of the powerful diesel engine and electric motor means a combined torque figure of 820Nm.
The sprint from 0-62mph is achieved in 5.5 seconds and the top speed is electronically limited to 155mph.

The S500 hybrid joins the S400 and S300 BlueTEC in the S-Class hybrid range but Mercedes claims the S500’s batteries have ten times the storage capacity.
The batteries in the S500 also have the advantage of being able to be topped externally using the charging socket hidden in the rear bumper.
An anticipatory energy management system is also fitted to the S500, which uses the onboard navigation system to prepare the car for the next five miles of driving. Mercedes says it will increase efficiency, as the car will know it can use the energy stored in the batteries ahead of a downhill stretch of road knowing the batteries can be recharged on the way down.
