While the BMW M135i looks understated, it’s a brute of a car. Making 316bhp from its 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine, it eclipses the 276bhp Vauxhall Astra VXR and the 296bhp four-wheel-drive Audi S3 for horsepower.
The sixth generation of the venerable BMW 3-series debuted for the 2012 model year to widespread acclaim from mommy bloggers, hypermilers, and the tech press alike, each group enthralled with the Ultimate Driving Machine’s new features. Or at least we imagine they were. Truthfully, we have no idea what these people thought and we don’t much care. But who else is going to get excited by a car that parks itself, helps you drive like Wayne Gerdes, and allows posting to Facebook while carving corners?
The 2011 BMW ActiveHybrid X6 is a sports activity coupe that delivers distinctive and aerodynamic finesse. Equipped with 20-inch wheels made of a light metal alloy, the car and its styling have been streamlined in order to minimize air resistance and lower fuel consumption.
Since the X5 is crafted in the United States, the automaker chose to stage the international media launch for the 2011 model in Miami, where Leftlane got the chance to check out its new powertrain lineup and other tweaks – not to mention an opportunity to visit some alligators who did their best to convince us that leather should always be made from cattle (see photo gallery for our new friends).
Just when we thought BMW’s convoluted naming scheme couldn’t get any longer, the company resurrects the “is” suffix and tacks it onto the sDrive35 badge. We're surprised the company didn't call it a Z4 M. Until this year, BMW M cars all had engines distinct from those in standard BMWs, but the X5 M and X6 M which share the guts of their V-8s with more pedestrian BMW models have already crossed that line.
The driver-focused and spartan interior is another display of lightweight composite material accented with butterscotch-colored leather seats and brushed aluminum trim. Passengers are secured in the door-less cockpit by four-point seatbelts.
Well for starters, carbon fiber. The M3 Carbon Edition, like the other limited edition models that BMW has produced for the Chinese marketplace in the past, is essentially no more than an expensive paint and stripe job. The M3 Carbon Edition is powered by the same high-revving naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter V-8 that all M3’s are powered by, with all 414-hp routed through BMW’s seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
On the heels of the ActiveHybrid X6 the 2011 BMW ActiveHybrid 7 reaches American shores in spring of 2010. Based on the newest BMW 7 Series, this unique car sets new standards for performance and efficiency in the premium luxury class. The BMW ActiveHybrid 7 is available is standard wheelbase at an MSRP of $103,175 or long wheelbase for $107,075. Both prices include $875 destination and handling.
Cars were one of the original homes of the mobile phone, and as technology has advanced, their integration has become ever closer. Today, BMW announced integration of Pandora streaming Internet radio service in all 2011 model-year cars equipped with the BMW Apps option, bringing the integration to its next logical step.
The new BMW supercar , BMW i8, has been snapped by spy photographers. Behind rose-tinted specs it’s a modern day M1, but in truth it’s a very different kind of car. It should usher in the age of the clean supercar, with a hybrid drivetrain linking a small internal combustion engine (BMW has a 1.5-litre three cylinder petrol unit on the way) and electric motors.
BMW showed up to Geneva with a new concept called the Vision ConnectedDrive. As you can see, it’s an almost impossibly low roadster with trick, Kaiser Darrin-style sliding doors.
BMW expects 2011 sales and earnings to beat 2010′s record results, with the newly-redesigned X3 crossover and 6 Series coupe helping to contribute to the gains, Bloomberg reports.
